Baltimore Inner Harbor with a bright, happy couple…
Donna and Nick first found out about me almost 3 years ago when I blogged Lori & Thomas’ NYC engagement. They both said they knew that I would be their wedding photographer though they weren’t even engaged yet haha. I have also had the pleasure of working with Pete & Christina who are Lori’s brother and Donna’s sister– pretty cool, right? Needless to say, I’m very excited to see all 3 of these couples at upcoming weddings!!! Enough background though, let’s talk about this happy couple!
Baltimore Inner Harbor has been an important location for Donna & Nick. They spent several years in a long distance relationship together, living three and a half hours apart as Nick worked towards his goal of being a state trooper. Any time they were able to spend together was treasured– they have spent many date nights, at the aquarium, restaurants, baseball and football games etc. They wanted engagement photography that would reflect that part of their relationship as Baltimore is such a special place for the two of them.
The photo above says so much about the optimistic character of these two. The day came for their engagement photos and it was less than ideal by most people’s standards– cold, rainy, windy, yet they still had smiles on their faces. They both have an attitude of making the best out of any situation and it shows.
I guess it worked out for the best to have such a dreary forecast, so that this couples’ sunny personalities could shine through– another plus, the rain left the colors looking super saturated and the touristy areas much less crowded than they would be on a sunny day. If I didn’t mention the weather you probably wouldn’t have noticed, but yeah it’s true hahaha…
I asked them what they like most about each other. They answered separately, but their answers were so similar!
Donna said that she loves the way Nick is always able to make her smile, laugh, and feel so loved. That he is truly her best friend– she can share anything with him and they enjoy doing so many things together. He is willing to do anything for her, and that even though it sounds cliche, he is her other half, and completes her. 😉
Nick said that he loves Donna’s sense of humor and how they have so much in common and are able to anything together. That she is sweet and absolutely gorgeous– she is his best friend, soul mate, and has been his rock throughout everything.
There was definitely a patriotic theme starting to run through this shoot, so when we passed this coast guard ship, or this red wall with Donna’s bright blue dress I made sure to take notice 😉
Nick has always been drawn to the American Flag and mentioned the possibility of making a pit stop at the Star Spangled Banner Flag House Museum. Nick loves what the flag stands for and working in law enforcement and protecting the rights that the flag stands for is extremely important to him.
His interest in the flag started as a little kid, when he chose red, white and blue for the colors of his room and hung up a giant American flag there. The Museum itself was closed when we arrived, but using the perfect lens and camera settings, I was able to capture this image. There is actually a two lane street with bustling with traffic, sidewalk with foot traffic and rather large courtyard separating us from the museum here:
I really like Donna and Nick’s expressions here. You can tell that they truly enjoy their time together and love making each other smile. Nick looks particularly proud to have such a beautiful woman walking arm and arm with him. 🙂 The next image is sort of like a “Where’s Waldo” book— can you spot them?
Donna & Nick were surprised at how comfortable they were able to get during the engagement photos and how stress-free the experience was. They were able to really relax and be themselves. They went with the flow and we basically explored the inner harbor together– it was a lot of fun! They were amazed to see what I was able to do with a parking garage or puddle or vent– everyday things can be beautiful 🙂
We ended our travels with city lights shining on the harbor– I don’t think it could have been more perfect even if there were blue skies and temps in the 70s. You two were awesome to work with! I had such a pleasure getting to know you and experience your optimism first hand. I wish you both all the very best and look forward to seeing the Christina, Pete and the rest of the gang at upcoming weddings ;).
